Putin ‘fears for his life’ as Ukraine invasion ‘undermined’ by strategic failures | World | News

Targets of Putin’s forces including military bases, ammunition depots, aircraft, and transportation facilities have been blown up over the past few days in multiple attacks.

Last week, Britain announced it will provide additional heavy artillery to support Ukraine defend itself against Russia’s invasion.

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) said in a brief on Tuesday that Russia’s overall invasion strategy is undermined, following the devastating strikes in Crimea.

Part of the intelligence update read: “The Black Fleet’s currently limited effectiveness undermines Russia’s overall invasion strategy, in part because the amphibious threat to Odesa has now been largely neutralised.

“This means Ukraine can divert resources to press Russian ground forces elsewhere.”

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky claimed in an interview that Putin fears for his life and that his only threat comes from within Russia.

He told The Washington Post: “[Putin] has no other fear but the fear for his life. And his life depends on whether he is threatened by his internal population or not. Nothing else is threatening to him.”

Mr Zelensky suggested that the sanctions currently imposed by the West are “weak” and ineffective as long as there is no “complete embargo on the energy supplies” and the borders with Russia are not closed.

He claimed that Putin can only be defeated if the Russian people put immense pressure on him after seeing significant changes in their lives as a result of isolation from the rest of the world.

He said: “I said from the very beginning that I believe that the most important sanctions are to close the borders because they are taking away someone else’s territory.

“Well, let them live in their own world until they change their philosophy. So, countries close the borders and put an embargo on energy resources.

“My personal opinion is that everything else is weaker. There is no complete embargo on the energy supplies, and the borders are not shut.”

He said of the Russian people: “They say, ‘Oh, we have nothing to do with this and all people can’t bear the responsibility.’ They can.

“They elected these people and now they are not fighting them, they do not argue with them and don’t shout at them.

“The Russians who publicly oppose the war are just isolated cases and these people are in prisons.

“But let Russians go home, let everyone go to Russia. You want this isolation, don’t you? You’re telling the whole world that the whole world will live by your rules. Okay, then go there and live there. […] This is the only way to influence Putin.”
